News1/26/2010 CEC Experiences Copper TheftsClark Energy has recently experienced a rash of copper thefts in the Powell County area. The copper ground wiring that is necessary to handle unexpected events, such as lightning, is being removed from poles that are owned by Clark Energy. Should the absence of this ground wire go undetected and not replaced, residences or businesses could experience the loss of appliances and electronic equipment. This theft of copper wiring can be potentially costly to the home- or business owner and/or insurance provider when replacing items that have been damaged because the ground wire has been removed. While the price received by selling the copper ground wiring is approximately $1, it costs Clark Energy $100 to replace. To date, Clark Energy has repaired 200 poles in the Powell County area. Even though Clark Energy conducts inspections of its poles each year, we also ask for the public's assistance. If someone is spotted removing wiring from a pole, please call Clark Energy at 1-800-992-3269 or your local law enforcement agency. |
